Most of his books were never meant to be taken as self-help or inspirational guides to success but it kinda feels like whenever he does public talks about them, he tries to turn it into a guide for becoming a billionaire. Especially things like the 10,000 hour rule in Outliers.
I've seen so many people treat his books as success guides now that its starting to tarnish the books themselves.

What are your thoughts on him and his books?

he is correct that you gotta spend 10,000 hours to get pretty good at something

a point i see a lot of people bring up tho is "10,000 hours doing what? whats considered trainging, let alone good training, is so vague that almost doesnt mean anything". I understand what he was going for but I feel like he shouldve specified in that part of his work

i havent read the book so i cant speak to how exactly he made the point but i know for an absolute fact that the people who make it my industry are the ones who dump hours in, and the ones who dont make it are the ones who instead ask questions like "what kind of thing should i do" and saying cope like "dont wanna work too much, gotta practice self care :)"

There's no comparison. Oliver Sacks was a great clinician, academic doctor and author. He was sensitive, intuitive and reflective in a way that let him examine how a disease would be perceived by people with no experience with medicine.

I cannot overstate how much of a nothing Gladwell is by comparison. He sells books, that's for sure.

Anyway yes I agree.
