One of the best little scenes is the chocolate scene Winston remembers from his childhood.

Basically his mother has a chocolate bar and proposes giving half to Winston and half to his sister. Winston demands he should have it all. Eventually his mother says "OK, let's compromise" and gives him 3/4 and his sister 1/4.

A good description of life. Whenever two people argue it's always assumed that justice lies somewhere in the middle, and it rarely does.

There was an anti-sex-league, and this was cool for the others

This is probably the only problem of the book (instead of being so boring), Orwell is anti-moral, so he thought that imposing a moral would be a "dystopia"

Poor Orwell... The State and its parasites destroyed moral and made people rebel against their own values

Demoralization
Destabilization
Crisis
Normalization

My favourite anecdote from HTC:

Orwell was constantly frustrated by the total incompetence of his own side. One example was the use of passwords. The central party committee used to choose and disseminate the passwords, but they were mostly educated people whereas the footsoldiers were often illiterate peasants who spoke a different dialect. One time, the password was "heroisme" (heroism) but this was a fairly intellectual word in Spain at the time. One guy didn't understand it. "What does this mean?" he asked.
"Oh, it's just 'valiente'" they said ('valiente' is the more everyday term).
"Oh right" he said.
So he goes out on patrol or something and when he comes back the guard shouts "Password!"
"Valiente" says the rustic.
BANG goes the guard.
Fortunately, says Orwell, the guard missed the bloke entirely, at a range of about ten yards, because no-one on his side could hit anything at all.

No wonder they lost.

Correct, comrade. I see you know your math well. Note, however, that for authorised personnel, in a scientific context, e.g. rocket scientists fulfilling their duty to the state by calculating the trajectories of our magnificent army's intercontinental missiles, it might at certain times be necessary for them to temporarily operate under the 2+2=4 paradigm. Clearly nonsensical, I know, and a grave heresy for the laypeople. At mathematics on a level this advanced these things happen; it just happens to work out that way. But do not worry, for like as with imaginary numbers, all the strange math cancels out in the end, and what we are left with is just the party-conformous, beautiful parabola our missile will follow, on its way to obliterating our enemies bases and settlements. Do not think so much about those scientific matters which confuse the greatest of our scientists even, comrade, be glad that it is them, not you, tasked with wrapping their brains around this advanced research -- you, my friend, would be going mad within days. It's for your own good you are being kept in benevolent ignorance. All hail the Big Brother!
