You can still find brotherhoods via Boy Scouts and team sports. I myself am half a sperg (the worse loud and arrogant type who puts his foot in his mouth easily and am prone to missing social cues and others’ unease) and I hate to think how I would have turned out without 12 years of playing football. What’s nice about American Football is that there are 22 unique positions+ special teams so there is usually a role for everyone with every body type to participate in where they can get these life lessons. I personally wasn’t even a full time starter til high school but through effort the coaches always trusted me and I got quite a bit of playing time resting starters. Our teams were good as fuck and we could rotate all the time and have competent players in and kept us all fresh we went on a stretch over 3 seasons of playing together where we lost maybe 5 games max and played in the championship game twice. Good times.

I'm autistic and had a pretty identical adolescent experience as him, the major difference being that he was more gifted in mathematics and I've had a girlfriend.
Getting a girlfriend really didn't change my perspective like I expected. I obsessed about getting a gf very much in the same way he did, I falsely believed I'd feel a connection to someone and not be so alone. I eventually broke up with her because I was tired of wearing my human mask constantly and the fatigue of it was killing me.

Feel this. Not diagnosed but I've strongly suspected for years and was misdiagnosed with ADHD, and when that happens ASD is usually the culprit. Basically I'm bad enough to feel different from others and just be viewed as a little weird but normal enough to cringe at 90% of other autistic people.
In high school I figured finding a girlfriend was a good thing in the same way getting my lisence and finding a job was, but when I finally found someone it caused me an inordinate amount of stress and I didn't know what to do with her once we were actually together. I've had a handful of really short lived relationships both initiated and broken off by the girl. My best friend is an asexual girl with similar background as me, found out about being on the spectrum as an adult and even before her diagnosis we just generally clicked in a way that other people didn't. I've got no interest in being with her cause were at the point it'd be like dating a sibling but our similarity has got me thinking my only hope for love might just be finding some mildly autistic STEM girl or something, because the quiet pain of dating regular girls with whom there is clearly a fundamental disconnect is seriously not worth it
