This is the only one that seems like total bs. I'll admit I liked some books we read way more than others, but still.

They didn't, but boy, did they try.

Kinda both, I'm not sure why this is an issue
>>Divine Comedy is a bible fanfiction
Not a Bible fanfiction, just a fanfiction. Dante throws people in their place willy-nilly.
>>Machiavelli was only writing ironically
dafuq?
>>You're not supposed to like Holden Caulfield
You can still like Holden, even if he's a faggot (like us).
>>Charles Dickens was paid by the word
A lot of authors were, does not diminish quality.
>>Schools killed my interest in reading because teachers forced me to read
Whoever says this killed their own interest, and is passing the blame on a system they don't like. Granted, the education system is a joke, but still.
>>Just finished this book and wow, just wow...I'm speechless
We all have that book that makes us say that.
>>Voracious reader
A statement that can only be proven true with evidence.

What a waste of a thread.

I'll admit was I very lucky with my teachers in high school. My 9th/11th grade English teacher was awesome, even though she stressed me out at the time due to harsh grading and her strict demeanor. My 10th grade was great too, and my 12th grade English teacher was the most passionate Shakespeare fan I've ever met.

What was the curriculum at your school? For me, it was like this:

>9th Grade: Basics: American novels, a Shakespeare play, poetry
>10th grade: World Lit. We read Crime and Punishment, Les Mis, Jane Eyre, Chekov,
>11th Grade: American literature. Fitzgerald, Capote, Morrison, various speeches and texts from American history.
>12th Grade: British Lit. Excerpts of Chaucer. Several Shakespeare plays and sonnets, the English Romantics, Huxley, Shelley.
