Does /lit/ read at coffee shops?

>> No.1736113

once in a while,

usually I just make my own coffee, I don't need people around watching me read.

>> No.1736168

Hate coffee gives me anxiety attacks because of my bad reaction to high doses of caffeine, pretty much have honorary Mormonfag status because of this :(

>> No.1736205

coffee shops are a neutral space to talk to strangers and friends. Not really where I go to read books.

I like to read for free

>> No.1736208

Only hipsters read at coffee shops.
That being said, many a /lit/izen is also a hipster.
So, yes.

>> No.1736211

Hanging out at a coffee shop for whatever reason makes you look like a fucking retard.

>> No.1736212

I sometimes go to coffee shops for some peace, but 1/3 times some (and I'm not exaggerating) very strange person will start talking to me.

Be they schizophrenic, transvestite, pissed elvis impersonator, instructive lawyer or a russian migrant enthusiastically practicing his english.

I must have one of those faces, man.

This. I went to coffee shops when I was annoyed by a roommate or my parents and wanted to get away.

Now that I live on my own, I read at home in the quiet with coffee I brew for myself.

For some reason religionisticist preacharians always approach me. Even on the street this happens..

Fucking always! Why is this? Do I look like i Like religionisticals?

Maybe they have some kind of manual for certain individuals.

Anyway, no. I only read in my house and in the garden, Occasionally in the nearby hills, where it's all quiet. <3

How about the shower? Ever tried reading in the shower. You would ofcourse have to have a water-safe kindle.

>> No.1736374

>>1736369

No. I remember in some book, probably The Savage Detectives, there was a character who readin the shower (while facing away from the water, I would guess). I used to read all the time in the bath. My copies of the Foundation books have pages that are flaking away at the bottom.

Why does so much relate back to hipsters on this board? It's really irrelevant and I'm sick of seeing it.

Maybe you should try to find new places to read in all the time. Maybe you should turn this into a lifelong goal?

What do you say brother?

>> No.1736786

I find them to be quite peaceful, I always pick one at random after work to go and kill time until they close.

But yeah I still live with my parents after 27 years, Latin America FUCK YEAH!

>> No.1736796

There's only one place I really do that at once in a while. Small local place where the owners mix their own stuff... I Haven't been able to find anything as good as their tea blend. Very quiet, very small, very relaxing. If I could find that magical blend of tea leaves I'd just read at home all the time.

>> No.1736800

Better question would be, why wouldn't you read at coffee shops?

And seriously, I have never seen a person reading "conspiciously" in a coffee shop. Or anywhere. Maybe its a cultural thing, but here nobody gives a fuck.
Nobody is impressed that you are reading, most people don't care or know what you are reading. Reading sophisticated or fashionable material might make you look interesting / smart but thats about it. Nobody's gonna fuck you because of that. Nobody who has any sense of manners is even gonna disturb you.
So stop projecting your own insecurities onto others.

>> No.1736860

I do. There's a cafe a couple streets over from my library. Since I take the bus everywhere I usually stop in for a while and read some of the stuff I just checked out.

Have you tried chai?

I find vanilla chai very good. It has caffeine, but it usually doesn't have much at all.

I was reading a copy of Ginsberg's Howl, Kaddish and Other Poems at a coffee shop and some guy came over and started chatting me up. It was akward because I'm not gay, and he was well below what I could pull if I was.
I haven't read in public since.

>> No.1736878

I don't even go to coffee houses. Why would I?
