Once again you prove us to be an absolute faggot. It's really obvious that the ancient Greek exercised their body and hailed musculation because their city states could only survive through that being under the constant threat of other city states, we don't live in that world anymore and going to the gym is nothing but the acultural expression of modern narcissism.

As I said in my first post, I think sport is a good thing. I play rugby if you want to know. Lifting weights for the sake of lighting weights is American faggotry. All sports are inseparable from competition, going to the gym for "taking care of your body" is just mindlessly participating in the competition of the social and imagining yourself as strong without having any use for said strength other that reassuring your ego.
Going to the gym because you do a sport that necessitates it like boxing is fine imo.
Same way, running because it's "important for your health" is gay as fuck while running as a competition with friends is fine.
I prefer a smart hearty eater to a mindless drone in shape that doesn't understand why he's doing it.

/fit/ is a gay board. I exercise because I'm tall and have back problems if I sit all day. My research is /out/ specific, so I also need some degree of health to keep up. Working out for vanity is no less motivated than working out for self-improvement, both of which are arbitrary. You should workout because you have to, or put yourself in a position where you are required to. This is the reason /out/ is such a better board, because, if you didn't lurk, you wouldn't know about dakota fire holes and the dangers of rock cairns. At least if you're wasting your time on an actual hobby board, you're bound to see something cool that genuinely motivates you to get back on track. /fit/ is the perfect partner to /lit/ because they're anti-hobbyboards, that invert the time spent hobbying to the time spent posting. So, by all means combine, but you won't "improve" and socrates never knew the joys of lashing camp gadgets and camping out with the boys.
However, I do appreciate this board. I have logged so many recommendations after two years of casually lurking, that I'll probably never run out of things read.
>>17380635
The exact same could be said for this board. Any recommendation I would ever need is in the wiki, and I could be reading right now instead of typing this response.

Statically lifting mass in incremental manner is pessimal hypertrophical exercise which, beside producing a surrogate sense of achievement within oneself, and/or a superficial impression within superfluous individuals, only serves to preclude freedom of motion within one's body, thereby, ultimately, and in recursive manner, pessimally affecting one's psykhe.

The exercise of maneuvering mass —whether one's own, or external— within the limits/context of optimal health & fitness, and of ideal aesthetics, is performed without detriment to one's overall mobility, in concord with one's optimal biophysical capacity.

The only aerobic, and anaerobic, exercises that one needs to regularly/quotidianly practice in order to optimally free, maintain alignment within, and build firmness of, the body, are those of: running, stretching, and corebased strengthening —with all that the latter may entail/include—, in that order of importance, and in whatever manner one finds optimal for oneself (martial arts, calisthenics, yoga, et cetera).

Restore the purity, and the freedom, of the child body, stop hastening its decay.

>"Whoever has come to know the world has discovered the body, and whoever has discovered the body, of that one the world is not worthy."
— Jesus Christ, The Gospel of Thomas.

>> No.17382152

>>17382047
False dichotomy. I can use weights to exercise and simultaneously have the focus be on proper form, stretching, and endurance of the muscle mass without focusing on the incremental increase in weights much at all insofar as the weight merely serves the purpose of reaching the desired effect of time under tension, in other words, the same goal as yoga or Pilates. Powerlifting is retarded if you aren’t competing but I still use a variety of weights in my overall fitness lifestyle.

I’ve been around the block anon and no most guys who are actually shredded do not fuck sign barbell bench at all. I do neck presses and dumb bell bench variations. Gironda dips are actually pretty decent too. BB bench press is a garbage lift and always has been. It’s only useful if you’re entering into a lifting competition. Also tucking your lats will not magically deactivate your front delts in a benchpress. When the bar is that low the front delts are forced to activate to stabilize the movement.

/fitlit/ was pretty fun. That being said, /fit/ has made me a better person than /lit/ ever will.
There's no part two to your reading recommendations. It's a sisyphean task that only makes you better at arguing over minutiae with like minded people who spend their time reading authors who quote other, older authors, who quote other, older authors, etc. What's the point? Just to memorize philosophies in hope of impressing people? At best you're scholarly hermits learning for the sake of learning. At worst you're insufferable faggots whose only goal in life is to be the most knowledgeable person in the room.

/fit/'s advice stopped my back problems and got me into a healthy weight. /fit/'s advice gave me discipline. /fit/'s advice made me stop feeling sorry for myself and see that I could change for the better. I am objectively and measurably better since I started down that path.

To be fair, you need to exercise the mind as much as the body, but half the threads here feel like their either asking for recs, arguing over pointless philosophy and books they've never read, and baiting contrarian statements. Sure there are some ok generals, and I'm not going to pretend like /fit/ hasn't declined (I miss /SIG/), but I'm sure if you could only visit one of these boards for the next year, you would be better off in every way if you chose /fit/

>> No.17384061

I disagree, exercise and healthy eating are simple and straightforward and while enjoyable in the moment offer little residual enjoyment. Learning and reading is immensely enjoyable and offers hours upon hours of enjoyment including reflection that don’t require the books at all. Honestly I enjoy both but I find the pursuit of philosophy and history and literature much more fulfilling.
