Thoughts on the books?

Are you excited for the upcoming Redwall adaptations from Netflix led by Over the Garden Wall creator?

These include:
>A Redwall animated film based on the first book.
>Martin the Warrior animated series.

Over the Garden Wall was good, and I hate Netflix's output. Hope they'll do the series justice.

I loved them when I was 11 years old and thought they were the comfiest books ever. I'm kind of scared to read any of them again because I might ruin that image.

For a kids series, they're actually pretty well written, even if the plot does get repetitive later on in the series. In my opinion, the prose is on par with most adult fantasy books being written nowadays (I'm sure there's a joke in that statement somewhere but I can't find it)

I first read it as an adult and it was pretty great, it definitely holds up.

Bro there already was an animated Redwall series, and while nothing special, it's probably gonna have infinitely more soul than whatever Netflix churns out

Redwall was up there with Animorphs as books for kids that didn't treat you like a kid. I still have like ten Redwall books in a bin somewhere though, while I didn't save Animorphs, too many and really only a few stand out. The original Redwall itself is pretty much a children's Beowulf.

They're super formulaic but that's not an issue because the real wealth of redwall is in the interiority of the characters and locations

I’m beyond excited. I’ve wanted Redwall to get more love for ages.

>> No.17532476

The author really improved over the course of writing the series. Redwall itself is not a great book, but the later entries really become pretty amazing. Hopefully the series does well enough that some of those stories get explored.
