This is Scott Alexander Siskind, the most preeminent rationalist philospher of our age and slayer of the New York Times. Say something nice about him.

As the deal with rationalism and autism? A read somewhere that rationalist community has alot of autist. Besides that, Scott is based as fuck, at least, his writing.

like this. it's a much less common shape than a normal spiral but you still see it in so many places that it offers a lot of schizo fodder. There is a real connection though, the effbeeeye actually list it as a known symbol.

So, why would you go through all the trouble of becoming a psychiatrist just to grab the ring of controversial blogging? Is the payday for his blogging partly advertising for his practice?
To me, the whole point of a medical career is it provides reliably high income over several decades of time, whereas getting controversial and famous over the course of a decade pretty much guarantees a few big paydays while probably kneecapping his long term professional viability. Eventually he's either going to get denounced as a racist by liberal institutions OR everyone's going to realize how cringe and aspie his thoughts are and just be embarrassed for him.
Not to mention how he's publicized his weird polyamorous asexual nature.
Seems his choices are rather... irrational.
Methinks he might have gotten caught up in momentum with the rest of the rationalists and lost sight of his own best interest.

>> No.17563702

>>17563648
i mean, people like to do stuff. he started blogging while he was a resident, doubt he thought his readership would grow to the point where he's being cancelled by the nyt.

>slayer of the New York Times
Not really. His defense boiled down to, "but these insinuations about me aren't true." He didn't challenge NYT's right to attack him in the event that the insinuations actually were true. (And many of them are, of course, but he chooses his words carefully most of the time.)

His first Substack post made an argument of that nature. It seems like his response following the release of the article walked it back and got down in the mud with them, which is a losing game.

The Californian rationalists don't really have anything to do with the original school of rationalism. Their whole movement formed around the blog of a Jewish crackpot who never even attended high school and built his whole philosophy from scratch around his obsession with Bayes' theorem. Incidentally this is why Californian rationalist writings are filled with weird jargon. Yudkowsky (the aforementioned crackpot) was ignorant of most philosophical thought preceding him, but well versed in pop culture, especially Harry Potter of course. He and his followers merely started to call themselves "rationalists," because they perceived themselves to be more rational than all those dumb peasants around them.

Scott is a liberal heretic who has written critically about feminism and wokeism in general and has allowed alt righters to participate in the comment section of his blog instead of ban hammering them.

>> No.17563944

>>17563868
the establishment can't control the rationalists. the rationalists haven't been a direct problem in the past, but of course the space of allowable thought and behaviour is rapidly shrinking.
when the rationalists think, they do so on a different foundation than when harvard or the NYT thinks (or tries to do so). therefore they're dangerous.

That post is conflating rationalism in general with lesswrong, the Yudkowsky robot sex-cult. And iirc Scott Alexander does not identify himself as a rationalist at all but just has a lot of rationalist readers.

>> No.17564178

>iirc Scott Alexander does not identify himself as a rationalist at all
He is a self admitted fanboy of Yudkowski and has characterized rationalism as "the belief that Eliezer Yudkowsky is the rightful caliph." Tongue-in-cheek, of course, but Scott absolutely is part of that sphere.

Actually I've met some real rationalist from less wrong and all. To their credits they are really really smart, not larping, but for real, they very smart, but very very awkward and somewhat autistic, some are more, other less, overall they a very nice bunch, that think through alot of things, very open minded. Never met big Yud himself. And yes, they work somewhat very different from the average "peasant", they are ver efficient on the thing they put their minds on. Not alot of women, 99,9% male, 0,01% some very uber autistic women, besides Aella, that bitch is just a mentally unstable hoe.

Is spelling Yudkowsky's name with an i a diss of some kind? Maybe some Jewish thing I don't understand? I see it spelled that way all the time, and maybe it's just a persistent misspelling, but I'd think you would notice the correct spelling after quoting it within the same sentence.
