I have been trying to read more lately but I end up reading at a snail's pace. I find myself constantly rereading pages because I started thinking about other random shit. I say the words in my head but my mind is somewhere else and I don't retain anything.

Establish a routine, read at the same time daily, it will get better. You can start with reading along to an audiobook if you have a hard case of ADD. If you want to retain, reading is not enough, you also have to think about what you're reading. Maybe take notes, depending on how serious you are.

if you're still subvocalizing, reading is probably not for you. just watch yt vids.

Is it legitimately random shit or is it related to the book? When I read, especially about philosophy or something similar, my mind will drift and think about the topic for a while but I conscientiously stop reading.
If you're actually reading but then suddenly think about some shit like what you're gonna eat later that day then idk just keep reading, maybe you're ADD or the book isn't interesting or something

i was having the same issue and gave up reading. i started working out shortly after and i don't know if this is related or not but when i tried to pick up reading again it was much easier to focus on a passage.

If your mind is wandering then you aren’t getting enough stimulation from what you are reading. The answer is simple, read faster.

Interesting, would you say this randomness misleads you in some way?
