Seems like Shakespeare isn't talked about much here. Why is that? I remember reading him a lot in high school classes but was thinking about re-reading now that I'm older. Do you guys think he's overrated or something? Isn't it a sign of a good education to be familiar with Shakespeare the same way you would want to be familiar with Homer?

Most anons read Wikipedia articles and pretend they actually read The Greeks and philosophy. They don’t even attempt Shakespeare because they can’t handle the dated language.

that answers your question about why he isn't talked much about on here.
and while it's patently obvious that he's the greatest writer in the English language if not the most significant Western author of any kind from the past 500 years, no one is going to be impressed or think you're a literary big-brain (the primary purpose of most discussion on this board) if you say you love Shakespeare -- he's standard reading in high school and for normal people too.

Literally everyone here who knows anything about literature and not just memes has read all of the main works by Shakespeare (hopefully all of his works).

I have no respect for retards saying "actually everyone before me has been wrong and he sucks and only I a teenager and some Russian pseud can see it!"

Reading in high school does not compare to re-reading as an adult when you actually care. Normal people don't know shit about Shakespeare, besides the names of the plays.

What are some good recordings of his plays? I get that it's probably considered faux pas to watch them recorded, but is there some 'gold standard' that I should know about? Any recommendations?

Coriolanus is secretly the best Shakespeare play.
