Stop buying into the shitty Pynchon meme and get some actual works of literature. Everyone who reads meme books like GR and Atlas Shrugged for intellectual points is scum, start reading for actual enjoyment. There are still high-brow works that don’t involve consuming human feces.

Pynchon novels are great. Gr is his best i've read. Some of the best scenes in there are the coprophagia scene, the one where katje eats out blicero's synthetic/wire-pubes boypussy and kisses blood onto gottfried's back, endless tchitcherines fucking slothrop up, the one with the drunk apes running around because of the gunshots, theres really too many to count.
The prose was pretty good, but the scenes and architecture are just too awesome. Best ending of any novel i've ever read.
You got filtered, but its ok - many people prefer mid/late pynchon's prose. I havent read past vineland. Also crying of lot 49 just isnt that good. Pynchon himself called it a failure

People seem to think anything with degeneracy is a “work of art”. They completely through anything about composition, prose or execution out the window if an author throws a random scat scene in their novel. It’s disgusting that authors have one hit and think that gives them a pass to be degenerates and pass it off as 2deep4u. You didn’t even get to the shit-eating part, I wasted at least 160 pages on GR before throwing it into the fire while I could have been reading Moby Dick online.

Its chaotic. Its structure is rough and I dislike now on reread a lot of what he was half-assing in it. The best section was 'in the zone' because it is relatively straightforward and relies more on writing than maneuvering. His general prose is also more polished in later books like inherent vice.

If you want to go for more McCarthy, then Border trilogy is really the best to go to. Set in the same landscapes but entirely different in other ways. Alternatively, read Outer dark. It is proto-BM. Anybody who liked BM should definitely read it.

For non-Mccarthy recs, Paradise lost is great as a follow up. BM has quite a lot of allusions to it and Satan is one of the templates for The Judge. Definitely reread BM after Paradise lost, you'll notice quite a few things that you didn't at first.

If literary westerns is what you want, then can't go wrong with Lonesome dove. Alternatively, Warlock is just as good as LD.
