I only speak a little Arabic but I've read the Quran and listened to it many times. It is extremely beautiful and there is absolutely no inconsistency in it.

Arab exmuslim here, I've read the quran several times and memorized quite a bit of it. The quran is bs, repeats itself a lot, and even incoherent sometimes. There was two different periods of Muhammad's Prophethood. First he was a non violent preacher in Mekkah (which is when the "poet rivalry" took place). Then he took the rule of the city of Yathrib/Medina which is when the militant period began. There were indeed poets who became Muslim in the first period.
