Any books about a corrupt society reaching breaking point? I'm interested in the turning point moment where it becomes a free for all.

Define 'breaking point'
Usually there isnt really one defining moment where everything suddenly goes to shit, but rather its a gradual process.
Houellebecq wrote several novels on this topic.

The Inquisitors Manual by Antunes explores some aspects of this. It doesn’t exactly descend to a free-for-all (I don’t think, I’ve only just started it) but the social order is completely changed. If you’re interested in these themes then Disgrace by Coetzee and The Moon and the Bonfires be Pasave touch on similar themes also. The idea of longing for a time that can no longer exist, being a stranger in your own home. I know this isn’t exactly what you meant but these books immediately jumped to mind when I read your post.
