In my case, my stack consists of the books I am reading as of now. It always consists of a main, heavy reading, a light reading and poetry. And it is a "stack" because I stack them up beside my bed (so I don't have to get up and walk to my bookshelf). My current stack consists of Complete Plato (main reading), Céline's Voyage au bout de la nuit (light reading) and complete Sappho (poetry).

Great, but spent too much time on the least interesting characters. Don't much care for the obligatory Dosto "high society people get offended and worry about marriage" stuff, and it takes up the largest part of all his novels I've read so far. Kirilov and Stavrogin were incredibly compelling, and the revolutionaries were all great too. Tbh the only thing keeping Dostoevsky from being one of the greatest is his lack of an editor

I read a lot of Turgenev when I was younger, so I can appreciate several chapters dedicated to dunking on him. If you can't, some parts will probably drag on

Kinda seems to be a theme with what I've read of Dosto so far that the ending is in some parts really inspired, and in some parts really rushed. Won't say anything in case you haven't read it tho

Would definitely reccomend, it's high points are some of my favourite in all literature. Shame they feel so buried amongst everything else

Ok, so you are a pseud. How are you meant to understand spiritual aspects of a book if you yourself repress your own soul and spirit to the point of rejecting Christ? This is a serious question and it is not a question of feelings, but the lack of discernment and your lack of honesty with yourself will keep you from comprehending a lot of classics aswell as other parts of life.

Here's why I personally favour reading ebooks:
>no book spine problems
>can take my library to the shop, bus stop, park, mall, etc
>easier navigation, again due to not having to hold the spine down and a digital table of contents allowing me to jump from any section in the book
>can take annotations and modify them however I want
>easier bookmarking
>ability to search for any word or phrase in the book, or even better, multiple books at one time
>ability to save all of my annotations, bookmarks, books, papers in the cloud or my PC by pressing a single button
>ability to change font color, size, and style (so if I wish, I could download an epub of Hume's Essays and read it in the original font, or I could get Goethe's Tasso and read it in Fraktur)
>can take screenshots of multiple pages and share them with my friends
>can instantly translate any foreign phrase into my language (no Latin or Greek though)
>have access to the entire OED and can look up even the most obscure words in an instant
>have access to other foreign dictionaries in French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Polish, etc
>have the option to speed read certain books by pressing a button which will presents the entire text in a series of discrete words one at a time whose speed can be changed to whatever
>can request entire books to be read by state of the art Voice technology, again, in multiple languages (example:https://vocaroo.com/1nBi4Bz2x8sR))
>able to read books not only from the 19th century, but also medieval manuscripts and modern florilegia
>books are free

I didn't. Also if a lack of Christianity means you can't understand Christian texts, does one have to believe in the Olympians to read the Greeks? Can only Hindus find value in the Bhagavad Gita? It's a good thing you've found something you can believe in strongly, but please have some respect for others trying to find what to believe in, and don't be afraid to question you're own beliefs and read works from other cultures. You're wrong, because you can analyze all those works from a christian paradigm, which will not hinder at all your comprehension of for example the Greeks. On the contrary, this means that you will be approaching these works on solid philosophical and intellectual grounds which can help you understand the valuable knowledge and the truth in those texts and discarding the sinful / irrelevant concepts in those books. Meaning that even intellectually you will be much better off approaching all works from a christian viewpoint, which is obvious, of course, since we have not have a functioning intellegentsia since the enlightenment (but really showing its dysfunction since the 20th century) and also most literature has gone down the shitter since the enlightenment (but, again, really showing its dysfunction since arguably the late 20th century).
All this is why I say you're a pseud if you approach these works, and all works you've mentioned, on pretty much anything other than a christian foundation. We've had enough "rational", "atheist" and "intellectual" analysis of literature and life and it all sucks.

I also understand that you lack faith, it's a very common issue and I empathize with it, but if really all your effort to gain faith amounts to reading the Bible (no doubt with a secular outlook) then you're not trying hard enough. Humble yourself before Christ, pray and go to church, maybe talk to a priest. That's making a real effort, not this gay larp of "oh, I'm going to read the Bible and if I don't believe then well oh well whatever God mustn't be real then *tips fedora*"
Again, I might be uncharitable here, but that's the vibe you're giving off man

That Huck Finn should literally cost 25 cents. So should the other ones in the top five except the Dick. For the bottom book $3 would be a great deal tho because its from a niche publisher and in good condition.

The Salvation army has probably a dozen copies of Huck Finn like that which are all 25 cents. You could find most of the books in that stack at second hand stores.

I have yet to read it, but even if you don't like it, when you finish reading it you would have wasted like 3 hours of your time at max.

Yeah I noticed that. I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to it. Culture of Narcissism was awesome except for the pretty suspect (and surprisingly easy to spot) Freudian psychology that seemed extraneous to most of it. Bernay's Propaganda is good if not naive, but Ellul's is perhaps too structured as to be a detriment, especially considering the advance in technology. I need to check out Ellul's Technological Society. Haven't cracked Debord but I'll probably do it after Marcuse.

Jealous. I got count at a half price but it was a Barnes and noble copy, it was a fucking abridged version. No where on the fucking cover did it say. It was in the last line of the introduction. Bullshit.

damn that sucks. I was going to buy it a long time ago at a different value village but while I was standing in line looking at it i read the small text saying it was abridged so i saved myself just in time and put it back. I was gonna buy Anna Karenina today too but once again while I was waiting in line I noticed there was a water stain and all the pages with the stain were molding so I went and put it back

Loving it so far. I just started reading Jason's part. This is my first Faulkner book and I actually started reading it like a year ago, but Benjy's part had me so confused that I dropped it.
Picked it up again a week ago and rereading it is even more fun. It finally makes sense. Definitely one of my favorites already, though I don't really read a lot of fiction.
