In my case, my stack consists of the books I am reading as of now. It always consists of a main, heavy reading, a light reading and poetry. And it is a "stack" because I stack them up beside my bed (so I don't have to get up and walk to my bookshelf). My current stack consists of Complete Plato (main reading), Céline's Voyage au bout de la nuit (light reading) and complete Sappho (poetry).

Great, but spent too much time on the least interesting characters. Don't much care for the obligatory Dosto "high society people get offended and worry about marriage" stuff, and it takes up the largest part of all his novels I've read so far. Kirilov and Stavrogin were incredibly compelling, and the revolutionaries were all great too. Tbh the only thing keeping Dostoevsky from being one of the greatest is his lack of an editor

I read a lot of Turgenev when I was younger, so I can appreciate several chapters dedicated to dunking on him. If you can't, some parts will probably drag on

Kinda seems to be a theme with what I've read of Dosto so far that the ending is in some parts really inspired, and in some parts really rushed. Won't say anything in case you haven't read it tho

Would definitely reccomend, it's high points are some of my favourite in all literature. Shame they feel so buried amongst everything else

You're wrong, because you can analyze all those works from a christian paradigm, which will not hinder at all your comprehension of for example the Greeks. On the contrary, this means that you will be approaching these works on solid philosophical and intellectual grounds which can help you understand the valuable knowledge and the truth in those texts and discarding the sinful / irrelevant concepts in those books. Meaning that even intellectually you will be much better off approaching all works from a christian viewpoint, which is obvious, of course, since we have not have a functioning intellegentsia since the enlightenment (but really showing its dysfunction since the 20th century) and also most literature has gone down the shitter since the enlightenment (but, again, really showing its dysfunction since arguably the late 20th century).
All this is why I say you're a pseud if you approach these works, and all works you've mentioned, on pretty much anything other than a christian foundation. We've had enough "rational", "atheist" and "intellectual" analysis of literature and life and it all sucks.

I also understand that you lack faith, it's a very common issue and I empathize with it, but if really all your effort to gain faith amounts to reading the Bible (no doubt with a secular outlook) then you're not trying hard enough. Humble yourself before Christ, pray and go to church, maybe talk to a priest. That's making a real effort, not this gay larp of "oh, I'm going to read the Bible and if I don't believe then well oh well whatever God mustn't be real then *tips fedora*"

Yeah I noticed that. I haven't read it yet but I'm looking forward to it. Culture of Narcissism was awesome except for the pretty suspect (and surprisingly easy to spot) Freudian psychology that seemed extraneous to most of it. Bernay's Propaganda is good if not naive, but Ellul's is perhaps too structured as to be a detriment, especially considering the advance in technology. I need to check out Ellul's Technological Society. Haven't cracked Debord but I'll probably do it after Marcuse.

Loving it so far. I just started reading Jason's part. This is my first Faulkner book and I actually started reading it like a year ago, but Benjy's part had me so confused that I dropped it.
Picked it up again a week ago and rereading it is even more fun. It finally makes sense. Definitely one of my favorites already, though I don't really read a lot of fiction.
