I always wondered this too. /lit/ is by far the dumbest board on 4chan but really the dumbest online community I've ever browsed. It actually opened my eyes to how dumb some people are. Maybe it's because people here are of average intelligence but try to hit way above their level reading Western classics, so when they talk about literature the stupidity becomes more obvious. But it feels like even for simple things /lit/ is just dumber than most communities. I'd easily rank /pol/ higher than /lit.
