Alright you pompous pseudo intellectuals, help me out.
I've been a paper book reader all my life, and thought this e-reader shit was nonsense. But I sometimes am reading multiple books at once and don't like having my lamp on at night, but I have to if I want to read.
Apparently the light from the screen of some e-readers isn't like a phone screen in that the light burning your retinas at night is bad for your sleep.

What e-reader do I get? Why does amazon have ad supported and non ad supported kindles? I'll want to also browse the interwebs, not just read.

That pic is great.

E-reader needs a light or has a back light and will be not much different from having a light on. You are confusing e-ink (needs light to read just like a book) and tablet style screens which do not need a light.

I have plenty.

So e-readers are still hard on your eyes?

Not nearly as good, Pancake is the first connect four meme which made me laugh.

They are no harder on your eyes than a tablet or a book, will just be different. What will be easiest and most comfortable for you to read on will be up to you. The whole bad for your eyes thing is just a meme, no different than the old meme of sitting to close to the TV.

What e-reader would you recommend based on your knowledge?

I like the offerings from Boox, they function as a notebook as well and have a stylus and run Android instead of some custom system which will die with the company or change on their whim, even if Boox dies it will likely be easy to install linux since they run Android.

Should be noted, just because it runs Android does not mean it will run all Android apps, many seem to not work on e-ink displays, you would have to research that if that is your interest.
