Anyone knows of historical precedents where an individual paid a writer to write a book for him (her) only? I don't mean like a publisher paying a writer to churn out x books every y year or so, I mean something akin to someone privately paying a painter to paint a picture of X at his request.

I would literally give Natsuo Kirino all I have if she agreed to write an alternate history novel where the US was unable to build the atomic bomb the time and went through with Operation Downfall, the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands and where a group of nubile Japanese female guerrilas would fight, seduce, kill and ballbust american soldiers.

Transcendental arguments for God are enticing, but they ultimately prove nothing, the reasoning is only bound to circle back to the fact it has assumed certain conditions as necessary for things to exist. As apologetics they are just elegantly circular, however as theology for the already believing (where there is no need to convert and God can safely be taken as the source of all things) they can be used to build a nice ontology.

It's kinda the same for presuppositional arguments in general, they can do a good job of organizing one's worldview when one is already a believer, and they can even be a strong intellectual buttress to religious institution (like the Catholic Church), but as arguments for the existence of God in a rational debate they hold no weight.

Also, the idea that you're going to logically argue people into believing in God is kind of a relic of the past, in the West at least it can only end up striking us as weird.
Those kinds of arguments make sense in a mostly theistic society, where you main ideological adversaries are themselves believers of another faith (or of another version of the faith), and when everything from popular custom to state institutions is grounded on the assumption that God exists. There God already exists in a sociological sense (the entire society is geared toward a god-dominated worldview), and the logical arguments tie it all together and add an intellectual veneer.

In societies like ours, however, it can only be confined to the few solid religious institutions still standing (here again, a good example is the Catholic church). Outside of them the societal ground for their power of persuasion is utterly broken, and the arguments can no longer stand.

For that same price you could get all of Homer, Hesiod and hesiod-era poetry, the Nine Lyrics, the Three Tragedians plus Aristophanes, the Three Historians, all of the presocratics, all of Plato and Aristotles, most of the ten Orators, plus all of Plutarch, Pausanias, Pseudo-Appolodorus, Menander, Diogenes Laertes and then some.

Alternatively, you could get all the major names of the 19th century French realist novel (aka the GOAT period of realism in novels) including the 93 works of the Human Comedy and the 20 novels of the Rougon-Macquart series, plus all of Proust and Giono on top of that.

Consider bad (carb-and-fat heavy with too much sugar) diet as something like a lower form of alcoolism: like drinking alcohol, it's not going to do much in occasional, small amounts, but regularly and on the long run it's going to damage everything (also not everyone has the same tolerance for gluten - most people take it fine, a few should actively avoid it).

Others have criticized their definition for being too narrow, for example, the definition is limited to direct acts against people, and excludes acts against the environment which sustains them or their cultural distinctiveness. Some analysts say the definition of genocide is so narrow that none of the mass killings perpetrated since the treaty's adoption would fall under it.

Regardless, if an action or policy directly contributes to the extinction of an ethnic group, that action or policy is genocidal in nature, and modern Western immigration policy directly contributes to the extinction of native European ethnic groups.

Why do you seem pissed off? You're making baseless assumptions about my life, and who I am, despite that I haven't insulted you until now, you hideous sterile lesbian

The actual distinction between white genocide theory, and actual genocide, is analog to homicide vs manslaughter. It's unfortunate that rightists have clinged to the word 'genocide', when extinction would be more apt, and nitpicking about words is completely irrelevant to the debate. If a human ethnic group goes extinct, it's a tragedy, just like if a sub-species of animal goes extinct.

According to some definitions, white genocide is real, according to others it's not. Regardless, ethnicities native to Europe face extinction by mass immigration, and that's a tragedy, especially because the immigration policy was ostensibly enacted for the sake of empathy for the suffering of poor browns.

You seem to be actually genocidal towards whites, and if you're not a troll, then you should kill yourself, and if you are a troll, then good job, you got me to reply.

2) I'm not Anonymous, I'm Anynomous.

3) Being alarmist is appropriate in some situations.

4) Ancient Egyptians are no longer a superpower; you can make a case that their gene pool suffered a lowering in the overall quality of the average person, which seems evident by the degradation of their power and contributions to culture and science; modern Egypt is an impoverished shit hole, and if that's Europe's future, then the situation is serious.

5) Yes, environmental concerns are a serious issue, but that doesn't invalidate other issues. The energy cliff should probably be our biggest concern, because when we run out of oil, society as we know it will end. maybe that's a good thing

hi I’m reading the hobbit and can someone explain what the meaning behind Bilbo using ‘Not the man....’ or ‘Not the fellow....’ is when seeing Gandalf, is this banter?

>As apologetics they are just elegantly circular
Hmm yes, although according to a popular religious YouTuber all worldviews are circular at the paradigm level. The thing I find fascinating about transcendental arguments is that their proponents put them forward as ‘devastating’ and basically undefeatable. Also I kind of agree with you saying that logical arguments for God will be unpersuasive for most people nowadays, as their inalienable belief in self determination will make the idea of an omnipotent being telling them what to do laughable, and of course thanks to the hit jobs by Gibbons and co making Christianity look primitive and anti-rational thought.

If you are really 48, why are you still posting on lit? Don't mean to provoke you or anything, but I always feel like people stop using shitposting websites once they get past the age of thirty. Maybe it's just my 26yr old imagination.

I have a digital version of this litigation guide and I want to read all of it and really internalize what it has to offer. It’s long as shit and not the most interesting thing to read. Any advice on how to structure my digital notes to make the process more engaging? I use roam research so I could make new linking pages for everything, but I feel like that’s just copying and pasting the whole guide as I read through it and not really internalizing it. Any advice? Please /lit/. I need your help. No amount of books on notes and learning has given me the secret to a project this large.

kobo and kindle are the 2 big dogs of e readers
they both read pdf, but poorly. kobo is slightly better I heard
on kobo you'd want to pirate epub files and for kindle you'd want to pirate mobi files. epubs are only slightly more common. its also painless to convert epub to mobi, unless the file is gigantic. sending from pc to kindle is slightly easier than kobo because you can do it wirelessly. on kobo, you'll need to plug in your device and do it through a drag and drop menu
kobo QC is hit and miss, kindle is relatively good. kobo has blue light filter, only expensive kindles have it.
both brands are passable. if you go with kobo, buy from wal mart for a better return policy than rakuten.
