The Exegesis is a real treat. The perfect combination of crazy and brilliant crammed with fascinating quackery. Several years ago it was published and now appears to be out of print. I made the fatal mistake of letting some whore borrow my copy and never got it back. Such a majestic tome is only worthy of having a physical copy.

It is more of a philosophy in fiction form rather than a nov, per se. It’s best explained in his Exegesis, but essentially Ubik is the Holy Spirit, which is the fundamental substrate of reality that allows progression of forms. When time (the Holy Spirit) is suspended forms start to collapse into themselves, as happened in the novel.

I don't like his prose but the ideas are great. I liked Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep way more than Blade Runner and reading about the original screenplay getting watered down over and over by Scott and other faggot producers got me to hate Hollywood.

Yeah, I think Mercer's inclusion could have really been done well. Also, the BEST scenes in the novel imo, the sheep being thrown over the building and the spider's death, are absent from the movie. Sucks, but Bladerunner 2049 was pretty kino.

Nobody likes his prose from a stylistic perspective. He isn't a good writer technically speaking. However I think there is a certain charm to its pulpiness, it's unvarnished and unpretentious. It also displays his remarkable intelligence and ingenuity. The guy may have been crazy but he was also a genius. Both sides of him contribute to the heady trippiness of his stories.
