Any books that describe the disgust and melancholy you feel when something niche you are into or have experienced has become more mainstream and in its downstream nature, it gets watered down and looses some of its essential quala that you appreciated about it before?

would the word be hipsterism? grognardism?

Both in terms of the theme of a book, or a more analytical study of the process, both societally, and personally.

I think Gatsby might be an example of.

Well, in itself its pretty abstract. Maybe its only the sensation and not the thing itself. nostalgia being a tangentially related topic to it.

Its not a specific thing, just a tendency, Like you just kind of get it, you know, then you see others later on get in on whatever, and they just dont seem to get it.

Like posting something you are pretty ure everyone takes as kind of absurdist and light heartedly, but then latter on people take it as being serious and the playfulness is lost on them. a redaction and narrowing of a thing.

You mean when you understand something on a deeper level than others, and you must continually watch others misinterpret and misunderstand this thing that you value greatly?
I don't know why you would feel sad about that. What do they have to do with you and your enjoyment? Just ignore them and enjoy your life.

Because they change it to suit their own purposes. It's a process that keeps repeating.

yes kind of
>I don't know why you would feel sad about that.
Why wouldnt I? the thing itself is a social interpersonal phenomenon, so when the demography that utilizes the topic shifts, it also shifts the topic itself. Isnt it pretty understandable to have a visceral reaction when someone tries to use something, but doesnt understand it? thats why i used the term zeitgeist, as its inextricably linked to its very use.

Now different doesnt=bad, if the topic changes, so be it, but in that process the understanding of the original tends to die with the change or new demography. The sensation is lost and even sometimes hated due to a lakc of not getting it, and just the trappings and shell remain.

Its not just that it dies, its that its misunderstood in its death.

So you're talking about memes, not ideas? This doesn't sound like something worth worrying about to me.
>>18230639
I could understand if you were speaking of intellectual principles, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here. I would just let these things go and enjoy whatever jokes and memes you have for as long as you can.
