Does /lit/ listen to music while reading? If so what genres? I can only focus on reading for extended periods of time while listening to a classical radio station or playlist.

>Complaining about pointless threads on /lit/, where one of the most replied threads up right now is about pegging.
Reevaluate your life, friend.

unfortunately classical music only works if you don't understand it

I listen to my old washing machine that rattles and hisses while I read Heart of Darkness and pretend it's a steam engine and I'm on a boat in the Congo.

Its predominantly instrumentals. What are you supposed to understand, how fast someone can count repetitions of 4?

Comfy. I read books about the Frontier West and imagine the train going by my apartment is an old steam locomotive bashing its way through a forcibly relocated indian settlement.

Not really, I like Erythrite Throne and the stuff on Gondolin Records. Khand are also good. Check out the Dungeon Synth Archives channel on YouTube, they usually post solid stuff.

Stuff like Eno or How to Disappear Completely is nice for reading sometimes. If there is too much rhythm, or the music is too loud, I find it hard to begin focusing. I prefer to have noise canceling headphones on but no music

i like to listen to noise music and noise derivatives while reading

Classical music fag here, this is exactly right.
We are taught to actively listen, so when I'm deep in thought the last thing I need is music playing.
Also anyone who thinks classical music is "calming" knows very little about the subject.

I tried, first in an autistic search for a stimmy while reading, and years later in a box-checking exercise where I tried to multitask through all of my hobbies. Neither worked. I'm convinced people who listen to music while reading aren't reading deeply enough.

I remember listening to music whilst reading as a teenager but I can't do it anymore. I find it too distracting; maybe I'm listening to the wrong kinds of music because when I'm reading visual novels or playing RPGs I have no problem focusing
