Eh, Gibson et al were inspired by the utter failure of the American space program to deliver the future promised by a previous generation of Scifi writer and so they envisaged a inward turning perspective where people explored and conquered an virtual innerworld, cyberspace.
No one is conquering the stars (except maybe AI) in Gibsons vision of the future, you just have some satellites filled with hobos and a rapidly degenerating nobility.

Extremely disappointing bros. Was expecting a bit more uh maturity from a guy who wrote such a groundbreaking masterpiece. Last I checked on Twitter he was bitching about the fucking royal family drama. What the fuck?

I have similar reservations that I voiced in another Neuromancer thread earlier today.

It's full of confusing scenes of confusing descriptions and a thousand buzzwords and Newspeak that Gibson weaves in while using his staccato style sentences to ensure we have as little to go on as possible. I also feel the ending was trying to be profound but it felt like it fell flat and nothing much happened.

I feel like it would have been a fun, albeit shallow, read if he cut out half the technobabble.

The techno-babble lodged in sparse conversational dialogue was the point. The book is meant to disorient to produce "future-shock". Gibson never originally intended to write scifi, he fell in to it more than anything, and his primary influence was guys like Barthes and Pynchon.

You don't have to like it, but it was intention

i feel like the scene where neuromancer fuses with wintermute was very good and feels properly climactic but then theres this somewhat lukewarm epilogue to it where the super smart god AI goes 'yea good job i guess im wicked smart also i talk to other smart aliens now, bye'
the book wouldve been way better if it just ended right after that climactic fusion, keep the ending more cryptic and theological.

I found the execution really lacking when I read Neuromancer. Very uneven, parts felt almost unfinished, and the ending is just plain bad. Maybe when I read it I just wasn't in the right mood or something, but I was really disappointed in it given how much everyone talks it up. Maybe I need to give it another shot.
