was plato a schizo?

No, as a philosopher he was a typical psychedelics dudebro NEET

Is this Phaedo?

If you want to see true schizo Plato read the Parmenides, it's an inversion of his earlier philosophy and even the Neoplatonists practically just disregarded everything after the first third in it.

What? The Parmenides informs more of Neoplatonism than any other dialogue.

I like a lot of Plato's ideas but I find reading them in dialogue form to be insufferable.

What are some great secondary books on Plato?

definitely not, he was the most reasonable man in Athens

very good post that is nonetheless a bit of an exaggeration.

What you tend to ignore is that Plato, this effeminate fag represented the end of this kind of greekdom. "Reason" initiated the end of greek warrior and body culture.

Schizo is the most overrused word here and it is embarrassing. The phenomenon is similar to teenage girls' obsession with diagnosing themselves and others with OCD at the slightest sign of conscientious behavior. Schizo does not mean "weird" or "spiritual". Schizophrenic people are literally INCOHERENT. They cannot be understood by others. They speak largely in word salad. Simply by being able to write in a way that is understood by most people, by having friends and associates, leaving his house regularly, and taking care of his health, Plato is marked out as not schizo.

It's not an inversion of his earlier philosophy: the various ontological categories identified by the various hypotheses are consistent with the ontological categories presented in Timaeus and Philebus. Also the neoplatonists (starting from Plotinus) were OBSESSED with the second part, that's all they cared about.
You probably got that impression because you thought that Plato was refuting his theory of forms in the first part. It is not the case though, he is just refuting some misinterpretations of his theory, which were most likely presented by other scholars in the Academy (as we can read in book 1 of Aristotle's Metaphysics).

He was not any more spiritual than most people in Athens, most of them would seem schizo today. Most people were extremely supersticious and believed in many different dieties and spirits outside of the common mythology. Divine inspiration is a completely natural thought to a person who hasn't been exposed to rationalism, especially if that person lived in an extremely spiritual society.
