Lit used to be the “wall of text board.” No wonder none of you can write when none of you read and express your thoughts adequately thus, lengthily. It used to be kind of a joke that people here don’t read but looking at the fact that people will at most look into opinion pieces and the what’s pop-lit right now (Guenon or Camus, Mishima, for example), and not even bother reading a twenty page essay in an hour, sit their asses down for that, the whole meme‘s become reality.

I don’t even want to post anything anymore because I know that at most for a long, good post I‘m getting five replies and that that depends solely on whether some of the few effort posters legt happen to be online, which you can never know when posting. A lot of people have also left, most due of this as well. It’s all a shame. I still lurk around here sometimes for threads because of those disparate but great experiences.

We still had a lot of writers in 2015 and the board was a playground, trying out things making up characters, experimenting. A great deal of the threads which are now viewed as lazy low effort threads (posts a meme, makes an observation about meme, twitter posting, trolling, etc) where used as writing exercises instead of just screaming at OP for being useless and crying for the mods. This is an example of that, likely some truth in it but probably mostly fiction.

If the writers would get their heads out of their asses and out of /wg/ they would maybe realize that /lit/ is one of the best places to hone you craft, you don't need critique, just sell yourself. Make up the type of character you would like to see in a thread and write them. Every thread is an opportunity. I am guessing this practice fell out because we were over run by people with terrible fragile egos who would probably just end up larping as 9 different characters, everyone of them stuck in a pointless argument with a troll until the day it finally happens that his characters begin to argue with each other.

the problem here is that with the general lowering of poster quality the demographics of a thread like /wg/ have also plummeted to the level of other wannabe-writer communities, ie retarded ya/genre consumers that do not really "write" as much as they argue about abstract "writing rules" and assemble the outline of their fantasy saga out of tvtropes and "save the cat"-style premade plot flowcharts. the idea of writing something interesting out of the blue to mock a stupid op or whatever is outside of their idea of what their craft even is, because it does not involve things like "worldbuilding" or making rpg-style character sheets for the hero and his friends. it's this very narrow notion of "creativity" as being an extension of fandom, and therefore extremely constrained by the sort of idiotic thought patterns fandom traps people in.

In fact, despite everyone bitching up a storm about how /lit/ is a shithole, at least in my experience /lit/ is arguably the best board on 4chan right now. It was also the place which kindled my interest in reading, which lead me to go out and buy some classics (heart of darkness, the old man and the sea, Mythology. I know newfag shit, I just got into reading pls no bully.)

I do find it interesting, however. That your experience is not unique. Every board has ever growing groups within them yearning for more of the Creative spark that made 4chan fantastic, You get the odd spurts of it here or their, but for the most part, the sentiment is shared.
Maybe a group of anons should get together from the different boards and try to start some form a renaissance or some stupid shit like that.

I've downloaded the actual book from the internet archive... Sort of.
The author is the same and it's a correspondency between the author and wittgenstein, I checked the pages the quotations are from and there's nothing about the meme. Then I've tried reading the book properly, but the more I've readed the book the more I wanted to believe and stop reading.
I want to release a version of the book with the meme parts added and make a "Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" edition with meme magic.
