Is the book as bad as the movies? The beliefs espoused are a disgrace to the libertarian thought. It proposes an utopian pipe dream that is contradicted by lots of research, most notably the entire field of Game Theory

Yes. The point of the book is that poor people are bad and stupid, and we should all worship the smart ultra-rich, who are the only ones that work hard.

As someone who grew up poor let me tell you, most poorfags are poor because they're scumbags utterly bereft of all morals. They are where they are out of shit life choices. Atlas Shrugged was the best thing I ever read. I don't owe anybody shit. Fuck off bleeding heart bitches

Is that really what you got out of it? The book was shit but your take is worse

The movies are bad and the book is ok. Not the best thing out there, but still readable. And if that is what you are expecting to take out of it, I would recommend that you read a wikipedia article or something.

This whole concept of individualism only begins to make sense once you realize it was conceived by a woman. If you want an ultimate look into the philosophy of what all women really want, at the end of the day: sure.

Nice refutation. There's a reason you lock your car doors when driving through a poor area

Anon, you were reading a fucking 2 volume book to take a fucking wikipedia article out of it. I'm sorry, but you are fucking retarded and definitely don't have any idea of the actual qualities of that book. And what makes it better than a wikipedia article. Do yourself a favor and stick to bugmen activities.

Just say you're offended because you've romanticised le noble poor in your angry little mind. Different people take different things away from the same book.
Most rich people are rich because they are smart and worked their asses off. Whilst you're on Wikipedia maybe look up the term Ressentiment

>> No.18701519

>>18701507
Most rich people are rich because they happened to be born in a position of economical flexibility and power which let them continue on amassing wealth by using what was left to them by their previous generations. This is quantifiable, unlike your absurd notion of a popularized minority that doesn't even take into account how broken the system is or how rampant is corruption.

While I disagree with
>Most rich people are rich because they are smart and worked their asses off
these posts gets to the core of why people are mad about Atlas Shrugged. It's really about the masculine ideal women want. It causes seething because it honestly portrays that there is nothing inherently noble about the poor. If you want a less memed book that portrays the poor as they are there's Down and Out in Paris and London.

I can disagree in that there's no nobility to be found in material poverty, and frankly, if you read Atlas Shrugged nowadays it comes off as more of a completely hilarious, almost satiric exercise in the rationalization of contempt (fitting of a woman) than it does an honest look into the capabilities of the human race.

The irony of when people who use game theory to discredit laissez-faire (easily addressed through fund-matching models) completely disregard its manifestation in the tragedy of the commons while advocating for massive welfare honey pots.
