Anon... we have these threads every week. And the answer is always the same.
>Aristotle
>Dale Carnegie
>Machiavelli
>48 Laws of Power
And so on and so forth

But really the best thing would have been if you had gone to the boy scouts.

Lots to be learned from Jack in Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin novels. Plutarch's Lives are good as well. Biographies in general are useful here.

But to lead well, you will want to be a very clear communicator, while being open, honest, fair, and accessible. You must demand accountability (depending on who you're dealing with, you can do this very firmly or softly, depending on the personality of the person being managed) while also recognizing that your job as a manager is to provide your team with the tools and support it needs to do its job, and not to do the job yourself (sometimes it's appropriate to roll up your sleeves and join in the work, but you can't do that on everything).

While there are many books on leadership, I am in general not a fan of 'how to' books on leadership and find that they are written by pseudo-academics who couldn't cut it in an actual academic field and also couldn't cut it as a leader in the workplace, so they instead became people who 'study management' or the like and end up offering obvious and banal ideas that are roughly on par with the typical self-help book.

Anyways if you have any specific questions just go ahead and ask them.
