I read a bit of her novel it's not really that great. I'm not saying she's a bad writer or anything but you know it feels like women writers aren't always held to the same standard as men.

Women just aren't held to the same standards as men in general.

The only books by female authors ive read are Jane Austin, Susana Clarke and Mary Shelley, I’m not reluctant to read female authors, it’s that they don’t usually write books that interest me.

I have a feeling that women are very soleptic in their writing. Its as if the world suddenly only becomes about the main female protagonist and all reason logic and realism ceases to exist in the face of what the female author wants to EMOTIONALLY convey.

I've noticed that these 'read books by women' articles never mention Ayn Rand. Why do you think that is?

I've read her. I'm Canadian so I had no choice.
Alice Munro is a superior writer.
Atwood was groomed by her publisher and fed lots of grant money back when being a poet meant you could be subsidized by the government. She has some great paragraphs but can't finish a story.
I loathe the woman.

She's better than Emily anyway.

Atwood was fine until the turn of the millennium. Cat's Eye, for instance, is a very well written book. The problem is that around the time she went to shit, publishing risible sci-fi, she also got retroactively canonized by feminists, leading to the ridiculous farrago a year ago where she was being lauded pre-publication for a bad sequel to her earlier book.

Just read the full article and she never answers the god damn question in the title??! Yes, it is clear that men read fewer books by women than by men - why? Why does this preference exist? If it is because of society, why does society hold that notion?

I will only ever care what my mother, my three sisters and my future wife has to say, provided they're not being cunts or overtly emotional at the time.
I see no other reason to listen to a woman.
It's as simple as that.

Camille Paglia is easily the most based female author still alive and Sexual Personae is the best book on Western sexuality/feminism I've read from an author, female or otherwise

The correlation between number of women writers and modern lit is very high, at least historically. It's not that I don't read women, but that I don't read modern lit. I'm actually very excited to read St. Theresa of Avila in the future, but I haven't gotten to her yet.

But we all know that that's not the kind of woman she's talking about :^)

>> No.18756229

Because she was too based to handle, and also because she was an ftm repressor so people don’t think of her as a woman subconsciously. Like Camille Paglia.

Because she's not a literary writer, she's genre. Also, Grauniad is a brit website, nobody's heard of Rand over there
