As a direct result of British rule, my ancestors on the island were made significantly more wealthy than 90% of people in England and in my parent's generation, several people were educated in Oxford and Cambridge due to policies the British put in place.
On top of that, as soon as the British actually left, some other tribal conflict opened up and people of my ethnic group were legitimately massacred, but as it wasn't whites, no one seemed to care.
I was born and raised in the US, and I am actually working to set up a high-quality private school for poor
Appalachians.
I do believe the reason for this is that while countries like Japan and Korea have immigrants in the US, these people aren't outliers, Japan itself is a successful country. Whereas Indians are less like the Japanese and more like economic refugees, where he is forced to directly confront how poor his parents were and his country is with how they are now.
