I'm not that guy, but I don't see what's so bizarre about saying that? If we're talking about the same incident, Sade was initially sentenced to death in absentia for attempted murder via poisoning (and an effigy was burnt), but after later evidence was uncovered he was exonerated (of that particular charge). Sade was certainly a "degenerate" and a criminal, but barely resembled the ogres in his fiction. If I'm remembering correctly, it's genuinely contentious whether or not the Rose Keller incident was rape. The only unambiguous sexual crime (by today's standards) that I can think of is the time he fucked a bunch of girls (and possibly one boy) in his chateau. Remember that Sade was extremely clement as a revolutionary judge (whereas 'virtuous' men like Robespierre were constantly sending people to the guillotines) and, while he had the opportunity to get revenge on his in-laws for having petitioned the king to keep him imprisoned indefinitely without trial, instead spared and protected them.
