Just finished reading this. What did I think of it? I don't think it was perfect. I think it was pointlessly erotic at parts and the whole fatalism/determinism theme was bordering on silly. But it was still beautiful. The line
>"Good night, Americans," he said in German. "Sleep well."
Made me feel things I haven't felt in a long time. Also the line
>so it goes so it goes so it goes so it goes so it goes so it goes
started to really make my ears bleed.
Overall 8.5/10, I'm convinced nuclear armaments and MAD are better than traditional war.

I would never read a book with such a terrible name.

Okay but what other book from the 1960's includes the main character walking in on a bunch of naked teenage girls showering unironically

It's fine, but really it's a YA book. Not great literature, though I admit the first time I read it I was quite moved by the fire-bombing in reverse section, and still think fondly about those paragraphs.

>YA book
why?

It's simple, it lacks any particularly complex themes, and it is written an a direct and straightforward manner.

I fail to see how an anti-war themes are not "complex" to an extent greater than YA fiction.

OK, that's fine anon. Nobody is going to give you a hard time IRL for liking Vonnegut.

I don't list this among my favorite books. But to call it YA is just silly.

>and it is written an a direct and straightforward manner.
so are hemingway and salinger's works. there is artistry in its style, despite the simplicity
>any particularly complex themes
it tackles acceptance. complex or not, its fundemental to life. and there is no clear cut stance reached because it acknowledges both the neccesity and the downside of acceptence. none of this says much about its quality, but its not YA

i read it, i didnt like it, but you cant say its a YA book.
To convey certain themes and express feelings and ideas with a direct and straightfoward manner, its an absolute hard task and its well regarded in the history of literature.
Like the other anon said, hemingway (which i also dont like) was the most direct simplistic motherfucker out there.
I think we need less tryhard readers

OK, fine. It's not YA. It is nevertheless babby's first literature tier.

The way Vonnegut writes takes talent, in part because it's so easy to read.
