What the fuck?

He literally cannot write. He has no idea how a sentence is supposed to be structured. No one even reviewed this for typos or grammatical mistakes.

In every chapter he has to explain a classic work to the reader or tell educate them on a common literary device in the same way that Sesame Street tells a toddler how to wash their hands.

This shit sucks balls

The crisis of modern literature is that people with good taste cannot see any clear avenue to making and distributing a novel whereas people who have no taste for writing are the only ones able to do so

Half of me wonders if people are just trolling. The narrative is pretty clear that you're supposed to be viewing the POV of you-know-who and their age is what determines the grammar. It is actually pretty brilliant and filters a lot of people.

>> No.19010390

>>19010380
The problem with COTC is that if you don't realize the thing with the POV, you'd think the book was thrown together. Once you see that the entire thing is crafted in a specific way to be revealed by later books, the entire thing makes sense. Trouble is, you can't tell people this or it starts to give away the twist.

There are parts of it with a new born baby. (Pete. The kid from Call of the Crocodile when he's an infant.) So that means much of it is told through the baby's perspective. I liked that one quite a bit. There's a leprechaun trying to burn the baby alive and gets pretty fucked up like the rest of these stories

I'm reading it and I don't get it. Why is it considered such a meme? It's fine, but it's about my level of writing and I haven't written seriously in years. I feel like there's a joke I'm just not getting. I really enjoyed the baby scene in the nightmare, but besides that it's just... meh. I'm at chapter 12 and I'm seriously considering just dropping it. I was expecting it to be bad since it's a meme, but I'm disappointed.

Am I retarded?

I'm 40 pages in and although the story is mediocre and the prose is bad it an easy read and it grabs you. It's like the 4chan equivalent of a terrible YA novel for women that includes magic shit and love triangles with the antagonist.
Awkward grammar, misplaced commas and spealing mistakes are distracting but the worst part is the /lit/ pandering. Gardner makes shoddy metaphores to lecture you superficially on the western cannon constantly.

It's bleak but what you said is pretty accurate. The digital age is all about shilling and grifting, and people with good taste inherently know how poor in taste it is to do that

You either have to have some form of narcissism, or just genuinely lack any self awareness to constantly self promote yourself without it leaving a dirty taste in your mouth
