To be fair, i don't blame authors for doing this, due to the following:

1 - The life of the vast majority of people is only becoming more and more commodified, predictable and limited with the consolidation of neoliberal globohomo, the scientific management of mankind and the culture of conformity;

2 - The average person (even atheists) is completely deluded about the nature of the World and wouldn't be able to enjoy truly realistic stories, chastising them for being, "cynical" or "boring";

3 - Not only are the truths of nihilism, determinism, and materialism finally beginning to reach the average person's ears, but there is also the fact that while we have yet to explore the Universe, it is unlikely that there will be intelligent life in a reachable distance, limiting the breadth of "exploration" to simply observing strange landscapes, not quite satisfactory.
Overall, stories focused on wonder, discovery and/or adventure are practically impossible to set in the Real World;

Even the vast majority of stories that are supposedly "dark" and "realistic" just because the characters suffer alot or the story is supposedly "set in the Real World", portray settings that are directly preferable to living in the Real World, since atleast in them life has some semblance of meaning, mystery/magic, freedom and/or novelty:
- Hints of transcendental good which to grant life meaning. IE: The christian nature of Dostoevsky's stories, any story made by the Greeks, etc.
- Hints of transcendental evil which to struggle against. IE: Judge Holden, Heart of Darkness, etc.
- Hints of mysterious things beyond the mundane World which to seek and discover. IE: Any story written by superstitious authors.
- Hints of free will, denying that we are slaves to our brain chemistry and equivalent to robots, the existential nightmare that our minds, our personalities, are simply chemical reactions and can and will be easily modified by external agents with or without consent as neuroscience advances. IE: Practically any story written before the 1900s.
- Characters with unrealistically or freakishly eventful lives. IE: Pynchon's novels, Ulysses, Kafka, American Psycho, etc.

It is dishonest to even claim any of these stories are even "set in the Real World" the Real World isn't just defined by its' suffering, but also by its' meaninglessness, predictability and lack of wonder and adventure

>> No.19044073

You're overthinking it.

Life is mostly mundane but intermediately punctuated by dramatic changes. Obviously, this would be uninteresting as fiction. Fiction must be manufactured, and this is true of any era.

Why do you call me naive if you admit to the truths i advocate for all of a sudden? Where is your problem here?

I simply find that fiction books as a whole, even "dark" ones, even "masterpieces", are actually spreaders of dangerous delusions that there is meaning to be found in life, that there is hope for "Good", any transcendental or any hope of "progress"
One should turn to other options such as ascetic retreat and embracing the Unique and the Ego in of itself as the only real truth in order to atleast lower their suffering if possible

Is life really that bad? I find 21th-century NEETdom to be incredibly cushy. Obviously there's more to life than the pursuit of base pleasures or satiating every little craving, but I find ample meaning in my hobbies and nurturing my little corner of the world.

I'm only even able to own a computer because i got extremely lucky throughout my life
I grew up poor, but now i'm relieved to make 200 dollars a month which might not sound like alot but it's more income than 95% of the world population, starvation is still rampant and people have longer workloads than medieval peasants did

We are not in the "easiest time in history", and even if we were, it would still not necessarily be the "best time in history" considering we're becoming consumeristic, depressed cattle with discoveries of harsh truths shaving off any sense of meaning or purpose in our lives that made medieval peasants able to appreciate theirs, just that the people who suffer the most from the shittiness of our time either don't have the means to speak cause they're poor, or are expected to "suck it up" because they are sold the myth of progress that people in the past always had these horrendous conditions, when in reality most people are still just as if not even unhappier and more overworked than peasants were

Oh let me reiterate, easiest time in history for us in the first world lmao. And yes, it is the "best" time in history for the rich people too.
>"[we are becoming] depressed cattle with discoveries of harsh truths shaving off any sense of meaning or purpose in our lives that made medieval peasants able to appreciate theirs
Pic related, you whiney little bitch. First worlders live in unprecedented times. We have all of the world's information at our fingertips, the time to pursue our hobbies, and widespread resources to meet like-minded people. And like everything, it comes with issues, but far less issues than in history. Read a fucking book. Serfs in Russia did nothing but slave away their entire lives. Peasants in England had free time after their labor, but no money to do anything other than toil around in dirt. Do you know how many authors and writers we now have in the modern day compared to three hundred years ago? It's many orders of magnitudes greater.
I don't give a shit about your smelly spic nigger ass living in a third world country, you're right, your life is shit. Go cry some more. Funny part is I literally have hundreds of thousands of dollars in crypto and donating life changing money to you would be a drop in the bucket. But I would never do that since you're just a shitskin slave. Get back to work.
