if you were literate back then, then you were either in some kind of religious order, and spent most of your life in the scriptorium, were some kind of secular scribe, who wrote and translated for a living, or extremely wealthy. So yes, education was really great back then.

You can probably just google that, it is 100% a direct quote of something that has been translated hundreds of times
>French
Can you not understand anything in French? Come on, a large part of the words are literally identical

Yes, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, authors writing for academic audiences could certainly expect their readers to know both Latin and French. They might know a bit of Greek, German, or Italian, but Latin and French were pretty much standard for the Anglo elites for a long time.

Then learn Latin. It's actually quite simple. And you will do something productive.

Sounds cool, right?
Go learn Latin.

I refuse to learn French on principle, and I don’t appreciate authors trying to normalize that language.

Russia’s population is falling off a cliff and China will annex most of the country sooner or later. Germany and France are in the EU, they will be English-speaking when the EU unifies into one country.

I can only wretch thinking about a world where we're stuck speaking only this horrid language. Have you read English poetry? If so, you know what I'm talking about. This language is U.G.L.Y. and nothing of beauty can ever come from it.

English is a good language for poetry, what are you on? Read the English Romantics. If you don’t like English learn Mandarin, because those are the only two languages which are going to be around in the future.
