WW1/Civil War: The Unmaking of a Russian by Nikolai Wreden
WW2: memoirs of Nikolai Nikulin were really good, however, I don't know if they were translated to English

the combat descriptions in nekrassov's stalingrad are jüngerian, but its embedded in sentimental novel form. would still recommend.

From what I've heard other anons say, Junger's work has a positive view of war and a sense of national pride, but Grossman's work is quite anti-war and anti-Stalinist.

You'd have to be crazy to think anything good of Stalin whatsoever. At least Hitler liked animals.

Always with Honor is good. Memiors of Petyor Wrangel, a commander in the Russian White Army. Get the one published by Mystery Grove, and check out there other books. Lots of great war memiors, they recently did an edition of Storm of Steel and these kinds of books are their focus.

Many people, particularly those who experienced it. War time often leaves people with their most powerful memories and closest friendships. The people who portray war most negatively generally have little to no experience of it. You'd understand if you either experienced it yourself or read more.

“This book is cheerfully dedicated to those greatest and most heroic of all human endeavors, WAR and WARFARE; may they never cease to give us the pleasure, excitement and adrenal stimulation that we need, or provide us with the heroes, the presidents and leaders, the monuments and museums which we erect to them in the name of PEACE.”

I'm saying at least the Germans (in both world wars) had at least some actually good things to like about their country, meanwhile the Red Army soldiers were sent out to their deaths and if they came back without winning they were summarily executed. The Red Army was ruthless and inconsiderate to their own (Stalinism) while the Germans weren't. Idk much about the Russian front in WWI though so disregard that in what I just said.

You’d be surprised. But anyway, Jünger definitely like war, or the war(s). People just attribute sentiment to him that he never actually had. There are documentaries available online where he says plainly that the war disappointed him, and proceeds to complain about how ignoble it all was.
