I know he insists his philosophy is distinct from existentialism, but even having enjoyed some of his work, I'd say he just seems like the most empathetic of the existentialists.
He's a good entry point to that school of thought for younger people, without being all gloom and doom about it. Genuinely dont mean that as an insult

Yeah I like Camus but absurdism only gets you so far.
As anon said The Fall is digestible.
His being masculine and handsome gives him charisma.

He was active in theatre and radio and his charisma and street cred he used to his advantage.
That life is absurd was a way of saying there is no God, but the pleasure of self determination (as a charismatic handsome street cred intellectual).

“absurdism” is something camus never wrote and could never write. it is a cancerous existentialist/post-modern reading of camus, which camus would have never accepted. camus was a rationalist and an enlightenment follower. which doesn’t mean being blind to the tragedy of human life.
