Has anyone here ever undergone Freudian psychoanalysis? I’m considering giving it a try.

I tried it for a few months, but the bill was too expensive for me to keep doing it. I could've kept doing it if I subjected myself to being an analysand of the analyst, because usually they'll drop their fees down markedly if you become the analyst's case study. I decided not to do this.

What happened during the sessions was usually pretty trivial: the analyst would ask me how it's going for me, or ask about my dreams or whatever, and then I'd recapitulate whatever to the analyst. Then he'd ask me how it made me feel, the event/dream which I was talking about. After a while, however, it gave me deeper understanding of myself, but I wouldn't say this is necessarily a good thing--instead, it made me more self-conscious. That being said, I never got to the "breakthrough" part that you're supposed to have. I'm half convinced the whole thing is a scam, but if you have the time and/or money to do it, it doesn't hurt to try it out.

Does insurance not cover psychoanalysis? I know mine covers cognitive behavioral therapy as I’ve undergone it many times. It hasn’t really worked though and I’ve been reading up on Freud, so I thought I’d give psychoanalysis a try.

One of the big redpills in this life is that mental illness differs with ethnicity. Freud's patients were for the most part Jews, or rich Anglos (who are discount Jews), and the sexual illnesses related to these two do not reflect the illnesses related to other ethnicites.

He's okay if you're a Jews or a degenerate Anglo, he's not so okay if you're someone who does not fill those two categories.

I’m a working class Amerimutt. Would Jungian psychoanalysis be more appropriate for me?

Why do you want to try it?

There is no magical breakthrough point: no idea where you've gotten that from.

For private practice analysts, typically not. But psychoanalytic clinics often take insurance.

>Why do you want to try it?
Because I’ve tried cognitive behavioral therapy many times throughout my life and it’s never really worked for me. I’ve been reading about Freud and Jung and I’ve found their theories interesting, so I thought I might give psychoanalysis a try.
