In pic related (spoilers) Goldmund spends most of the the book roaming around Germany, sleeping in peoples houses, eating their food and fucking just about anyone he wants, and it is mentioned quite often this is because of his youthful charm and good looks. However, at the end, after a few years break from that, when I think he’s in his thirties, with some grey hairs and wrinkles, he keeps getting rejected, and basically gives up on life and dies.

I’m 21, and look quite young, so I imagine people treat me better because of it (not as mistrustfully etc.), so the idea I won’t be treated as favourably hit home a bit. I’m looking for another book which explores this more explicitly/deeply to help me make the most of the next few years (ideally not on a taiwanese basket weaving forum).

You’re a literal retard. You didn’t get replies because 4chan is full of ugly, autistic shut ins. Of course nobody here has any recommendations about enjoying being young and attractive. That’s why you didn’t get a response, not because it’s not a bait post.

Honestly, OP, youthful lifestyles have been extended so far you probably have about a decade to fuck around in. Just do what you like. Everyone's desultory years last until they're like 29 now.

I found Goldmund's cheerful, optimistic and enduring extroversion to be quite inspiring
Did that screenplay ever go anywhere?

You need to read between the lines of Goldmunds life and what it implies. Yes, his hedonism drove him away from a life in the cloister but not because he was good looking, it was because he knew that he would never posses the intellect and discipline of Narcissus, whom he looked up to. This realization prompted him to pursue a life of expression through his physical body and aesthetic as opposed to intense study and sedentary activities. In the ending when Narcissus witnesses the brilliance and beauty of Goldmunds culminated aesthetic gifts you get the true understanding that, though his life was more difficult and filled with strife, it also produced much beauty which would touch the lives of people in the cloister long after he died. This is the irony of Goldy wanting to emulate Narcissus when each man possessed their own gifts and Narcissus had the same feeling of envy because he knew he could never achieve what Goldmund did. This was my youthful interpretation from about 10 years ago when I was 18. I tried to say as much as I could without spoiling too much.

Nope, you will actually be trusted more when you're older. You will be un-bonkable though unless you have loads of money, in which case you can enjoy a gold-digging roastie, which you probably don't want.
