Did he explain why it's lazy? Unless you're directly addressing the reader, this would only happen in a character's dialogue. I'm assuming he means that it's a way that writers TELL instead of SHOW through character dialogue. It's not lazy to explain something to the reader through dialogue. People literally do this all the time in real life.
