/lit/bros, should I go to my uni's lit club meetup? I'm a 20 y.o. KHV CS student and since I expect most of them to be (female) humanities students, I'm kinda anxious about it. I read around 25-30 books per year.

Last books I read were:
Crime and Punishment
Homage to Catalonia
Confessions of a mask
Stoner

Fav book is book of disquiet, I never tell that when asked though. Will they think I'm LARPing? Not American btw, sorry for blogpost frens.

If you want to socialize with people who are also passionate about literature go. If you don't enjoy it don't go back.

its that simple.

Bro, I think you should go. My advice:
1) Don't be ashamed or angry if people don't like what you like. It's normal that they have different tastes than you. Do tell people that you like the book of disquiet. They'll ask you why, you'll explain. No shame involved.
2) Don't go into it with big expectations of finding friends/partners. Relax and be friendly.
3) It's okay if you find someone dull or obnoxious. Be polite and go talk to someone else.
3) Shower, use deodorant, wash your face and brush your teeth before.

There you have it. Good meetup fren

I liked it very much, didn't know anything about the Spanish civil war beforehand. I loved the perspective of a war from lesser known fronts where nothing really happened and 15 yo kids were sent to fight.

I like how it did a good job of portraying the war as both romantic and at the same time deconstructing that romance. Young men, barely literate, performing great acts of heroism to take the fight to the fascists. And yet also young men dying for stupid reasons, throwing grenades in firepits, barely able to use a rifle correctly. The patriotic notes stashed in dud shells and the acknowledgement that such tales were almost certainly propaganda.

You should 100% go, doing this sort of thing is what saved me from becoming a complete social autist. From your reading list you reek of /lit/, but that's ok. Most of the people you'll meet won't be exceptionally well read (and I'm gonna bet most haven't heard of any of the books on your list except maybe C&P), but you'll probably find a few serious types in there with interesting tastes. This anon's advice is good >>20356872 and I'd add that you gotta remember that you are there to socialize, not to one-up others with snooty but ultimately sophomoric /lit/ meme-texts. Yes, normies are annoying, but learning to befriend them interlinks you into the social circles where you'll meet lifelong friends and partners, people you actually genuinely like talking to whether over literature or other matters.

Good luck OP, try not to choke on self-consciousness.

Literally everyone is LARPing at your age, wtf 20 year old knows what they're doing

In my experience these clubs are primarily midwit women who read Harry Potter and other YA trash. However, there are also sometimes cool people there so it's worth going. But don't be anxious, you're probably better-read than 90% of them.
