Never taking book recommendations from lit again
Book of Disquiet
>Lonely genius whines about being a lonely incel
>oh look more gibberish mystical-philosophical bile
Notes from Underground
>misanthrope complains about everything
No Longer Human
>Rich kid whines about being a lonely imposter
>oh also he was assraped but mostly socializing makes his tummy feel wierd
The Savage Detectives
>avant-garde assholes fuck each other, the rich awkward protagonist gets a lot of it
>also he doesn’t even try, women just suck his cock on a whim (same for Murakami)
>also he’s kinda smart and part of a literary journal so he’s sooooo important
Regardless of any other merits these books might have, I’ve come to the realization that lit gravitates toward them more because the plots and characters validate their social emaciation and provide masturbatory wish fulfillment for their intellectual pretensions and sexual aspirations.
It’s pretty disappointing to pick up a book someone on lit recommended and realize that it’s just more lit.

>Book of Disquiet
It's a collection of aphorisms. Pretty sure you're not really supposed to read this from back to back. That's not how one reads aphorisms.
>Notes from Underground
Among Dostoevsky's densest works. First half is basically a speech with no actual plot and a lot of hidden historical context and references. Better start with Crime and Punishment or Karamasow.
>No Longer Human
This one I didn't really get myself. It seems overhyped. As a character study, okay, but it didn't really do anything particularly impressive.
>The Savage Detectives
Never read, one of those postmodern monuments that seemed trendy for a while.

I am really happy I wasn’t born with the kind of brain that reads Notes and interprets it as “misanthrope complains about everything”.

ya i stopped taking book reqs after denial of death. there was another couple questionable ones before that, but denial of death was when i was like yeah these books are lame. if the books were good they wouldn't need to shill them know what i mean.

you did not read the savage detectives in its entirety. the vast majority of the book is people offering their accounts of interacting with lima and belano. garcia madero is supposed to be an insufferable pretentious 17 year old little faggot, just like you and I were at that age.
