Just read the first half through Chapter 12. Then read subsequent chapters that correlate to the next book you want to read. E.g; read Ch14/15 if you suck at poetry, but want to read a poetry book next. Read the philosophy chapter before moving on to a philosophy book. Come back and read the Syntopical Reading section when you're ready to read multiple books on the same topic. So on and so forth

It's purely an instructive/practical book, almost like a textbook. It's not supposed to be particularly entertaining. Although I do enjoy Adler's prose desu

I did the exercises at the end of HTRAB, then I did the whole process with a non-fiction book and some scientific papers then never again, now the process is intuitive. Also, 95% of the books don't need a minute analysis, recognizing the idea and the argument supporting it is enough.
