I play grand strategy games a lot but I suck at them. Never get far into a campaign. I think its because I don't have the patience to do all the micromanaging and a lot of grand strategy games have a lot of waiting and I always feel like I'm falling behind if I'm just waiting in those games. So I end up taking some reckless action when I'm ill-prepared for it. Sometimes I stop playing if I somehow get too strong as well, since I get paralyzed with the amount of options I have when it comes to steamrolling people. Really, I think the idea of grand strategy games appeal to me more than actually playing them - being able to build a large empire sounds great and I love history but I don't have the focus, decision-making skills, and patience to do all that. I should just stick to role-playing games where my lack of patience and focus doesn't apply and making a terrible decision isn't game-ruining.

How does buying a used book deprive authors of income compared to a new book from a retail store? I was under the impression, and correct me if I'm wrong (please tell me I'm wrong!), that commercial retailers pre-order a batch of books from the publisher. I would assume that the retailer pays the wholesale cost of those books up front to the publisher and then try and sell as many as they can at a price where any unsold copies they can absorb the wholesale cost of. In turn the publisher, provided the author has paid back their advance, receives their royalties from the number of copies ordered wholesale. (maybe there are distributors who act as middle men?)
So, the book sitting on the shelf of a retail store, the author has already been paid for it. If the retailer sees they're selling out, then in response to demand they may order more copies from the supplier? Now, indirectly I can see how that ensures the author gets paid their fair share because now they get more royalties from the second batch of books ordered.
But if all of a sudden everyone starts going crazy for some out-of-print order, they fly off the shelves of used book stores, doesn't that theoretically motivate a publisher to print a new edition of the book?
And if the book is still in print, doesn't that increased demand motivate the publisher to keep the book in print? Thereby ensuring that more retailers will order new copies, and the author keeps getting paid royalties?
tl;dr - how can I shame redditors more accurately about denying the author royalties?

You are pretty much right. Contracts can vary obviously but most often the author gets his royalties from books ordered wholesale. Wholesale price usually is like 40% of the retail price I think but could be wrong.
Books sold directly on the publisher or the authors website is different again.
The publisher orders a number of books from the printer. If the books sell out they will order the next edition from the printer and so on. The publisher and retailer will pay good attention to the demand and as long as the book is still somewhat being read and retailers want to keep selling it the punlisher will make sure it stays available at the major retailers and keep ordering new editions from the printer as necessary. The larger the order size at the printer the lower the cost for the single copy will be and if the retailers only want to keep a very small stock the publisher may pull the plug. Total number of used copies of a certain book sold in used book stores is very hard to come by and even if they notice a demand it is still not very likely that they will print it again. As I understand it the 'indeterminacy' of Quantum Physics is not that "lol, it's random bro anything can happen" but more to do with the fact that the only way to accurately determine both the position and velocity of a Quantum particle is to interfere with it. Finally, although - barring the mother - you don’t need to worry about it until they are like 4/5 months old, don’t forget to neuter them before they start developing sexual behaviours. Being in heat is stressful for the cat (and for whoever lives in the house) and the sexual hormones of males take like three months after neutering to completely leave the body.

I can remember to a point why I'd feel my family had abandoned me. It took a while, quite a while to really realize. A long time, really. It's a big thing, admitting to yourself gradually that you think you really are unloved. With my father it's simpler in a way, perhaps, but basically: both of them really cut ties with me in 09. I lived out the year at home, but they abandoned me when I needed them the most. I asked, and I asked again, and they did. I asked again a couple of years later and they did nothing. Told me to fuck off, basically. So gradually, although it took very much to admit to myself, I began to realize that they didn't love me, and probably don't. They don't really know me at all by now, that probably ended in 08 or 09. The thing is that I.. this is childish in a way, although in another way it is not- I did an interrail in 08, and I had an idea that I'd get a tatoo in some seedy place (hungary, for some reason) where no one wouldn't care I wasn't of age. The tatoo was going to be on my left hand, and it was to be a kind of simplistic picture-frame with the words "No direction home" in it. That's how I felt. Kind of a dramatic cry for attention. But I remember I did. I didn't get the tatoo. What I can't remember is what is to have made me feel so alienated already at that point. It wouldn't make sense for my family to suddenly not love me, out of the blue, 10 months or so later. But I don't really have any memories as to what would have made me feel this, concretely. The problem is that to be a employed filmmaker you need to have a audience, that means you need to identify a theme or style that appeals to a certain segment of the population and then you need to gain a lot of exposure from them. I don't know who that segment is, and as such I can't get exposure from them. If you can do that, then theoretically there's many paths to getting the resources to make films

if you don't have the style yet, you have two options: either cater to an audience you think is large (and easy to reach), or disregard the audience until you have your style roughly sketched out, then investigate the public by observing who is interested in similar things. find where those people may congregate and integrate yourself into their community (online or otherwise, idk). of course, you need a product to show them before you can hope for exposure, so you'll need to start small.
