I remember hearing about this Russian book years ago that I’d like to find and read. It’s about a man who works at a panopticon prison. He watches all the prisoners from safe inside the security room that has peepholes or something into every cell. As he spends his days watching them, slowly he starts to get more and more paranoid that the inmates are actually watching him. As the novel progresses, he begins breaking down and losing his sense of reality, authority, and identity. Does anyone happen to have any idea of what this book would be?

I'm a Russian-speaker so I'll search around for it on Google.

I think I found it. The Matiushin Case by Oleg Pavlov. It's semi-auto-biographical too.
