Books for Beginners

I need a couple of books to read, specifically in literary fiction but, I'm open to any genre as long as it's not some complicated shit that will have my brain fucked after the first 2 pages. I'm trying to read the classics starting with the easiest and progressing onward but, I'd like some advice on how I should proceed. I've read Kafka's metamorphosis and catcher in the rye because they're the easiest. Currently reading short stories because my retarded brain doesn't allow me to give enough attention to read a 300-page book for 2 hours before giving up and never reading it.

Lolita, it's got a few 'big word', but once you get into the flow of the prose, you won't want to stop. I literally have no clue how Nabokov actually did that, and even I was skeptical of it before I started reading. It's really strange desu.
