So I wanted to get in to reading, so of course I went to /lit/ and went to their top 100 chart. I chose #2 Ulysses. What the actual fuck. How did any of you rate this to #2 when you need an old English dictionary to accompany reading it. Complete waste of money. What book is good from the top #100 that a pleb like me can comprehend?

When Ulysses was first published a century ago the average pleb queued up to read it and had no problems. The decline is real.

Why would anyone start with a 1000 page novel written in a weirdo dialect?

Try thus spake zarathustra for something good. I like nietzsches other books better but they are much harder.

If you're new to novels and you want something simple try Grossman's translation of Don Quixote. It's a modern translation, and fairly easy to read.

Dont actually start with liber novus. Hes trolling lol. Although jung is indeed one of the greatest geniuses and writers. But start small and work your way up.

Fucking filtered. Imagine getting filter by Ulysses over words of all things. I'm an ESL and even I don't have any problem understanding. I just find the structure annoying. I'm not in the right state of mind to properly focus on the book and follow its weird meandering structure. Mostly because being online too much has destroyed my attention span.

The novel contains the entire western literary tradition inside it, shut the fuck up and do your schoolwork.
