Imagine being the priest and this decrepit old woman comes up to the altar and you're ready with the wafer, she does that old person thing where she goes mlem mlem and moisturizes her lips before opening up her wrinkled, toothless maw, you try to stick the wafer in her mouth as bravely as possible but your thumb brushes on her lip and you feel that wispy mustache just wet with saliva. Read Imitation of Christ for praxy and Catechism for doxy. Bible is good but I would suggest one with annotations such as the Catholic Study Bible for apostolic and traditional guidance.

Well I don't know exactly how things like this work in the roman catholic church, but this leads to an interesting topic regarding the Eucharist in the Orthodox church.
This video explains it in great detail, but to put it simply, the Orthodox belief is that it is impossible to transfer illnesses or germs from Holy communion. The energies of God which are present do not allow such things to happen, and this is why they consider it heresy and blasphemy to wear masks in church because of the covid "pandemic".
