How has reading books and writing benefited your life?

It has allowed me to drown out my thoughts and delay my suicide (I will stream, I promise)

>> No.21817798

>>21817736
It allows me to focus my thoughts into a coherent stream.

It's the most rewarding thing I can do considering I spend all my time working in silence during the day and spending the rest of my time alone.

Books can be your friends and writing can be your voice, even if nobody is listening.

Reading and writing have made me significantly more articulate and knowledgeable than the average person in my local area, and I’ve had some good times reading stories for fun. My writing is markedly better than the average person as well, even in a professional context, allowing me to draft emails and similar things in a clearer fashion, and I now understand many literary references made in media which I previously couldn’t comprehend. Good stuff overall.

At a young age it gave me superior reading comprehension over my peers, helped me develop a sense of empathy, and gave me a large vocabulary for my age.
As a young adult I got depressed and quit reading and i'm brain dead retarded now. I stared reading again but im so slow and have to keep re reading. My vocabulary is probably worse than i was at a sixth grade level desu.

It has made me not want to kill myself and gives me something to look forward to everyday. Some might call this "purpose", but is my life "purpose" to read? I dont think it is, but the alternative is hanging or a bullet through the brain.

Jacking off while reading articles on Jstor gave me massive rashes on my dick because I could go on reading for hours nonstop. Reading paperback texts helps me control myself because I don't want to get the pages wet. Thus my cock no longer has lesions, which is a great benefit to myself and my quality of life.

If a book is good and immersive, I can cut myself off from this shitty world I'm living in. Everything, and I mean it, is better in my head

I only read books, but it's allowed me to look at the world from different viewpoints and with different lens. I know that some are more true than others, but in the end learning more about different opinions from thinkers, from the characters of stories, from poets allows me to have a fuller view of the world besides my own perspective.
