Hello /lit/. I've been reading Ulysses lately. I haven't read much yet but I'm only understanding maybe 40-50% of what I'm actually reading.

To those who've read it: should I read on? Did you also encounter difficulties understanding it?

This is normal with all "classic literature"

you don't read them for fun or enjoyment, you read them to appear well-read and cultured. nothing else. get to work.

I enjoyed Ulysses. It's difficult but worthwhile, imo, and using a guide or sparknotes or whatever isn't 'cheating' as other people seem to think. This isn't a game after all, this is serious business. But by all means, stop reading if you aren't enjoying it at all.
