Would it be retarded to rebuy books just to have them as hardcover?

>> No.22004937

Everything's retarded when you really think about it.

Anytime you deal with a physical book of any form instead of just pirating a PDF, you are already engaging in retarded commodity fetishism. What's the harm in going one step further, if it makes your little lizard brain sparkle

but that's not true. Reading physical books is just better nothing to do with commodity. I just can't learn from a screen

You could download it and print it out yourself and save the money if you want it in paper. Ppl here bind their own books.
Even with normal books not going to the library and getting the physical book for free means you spend money on something you didnt necessarily need to read the book

if you see yourself keeping it and reading it for years to come then why not? You can always gift the paperback you had to someone else.

I do this for books I like. No issue if you have the money, which you should as hardcovers are usually less than $40

yeah this is a good idea too, I've had a few books printed and bound and it was way cheaper than buying them, the quality was great too.

ebookfags are bound to screens... imagine taking an ebook reader with you to the forest when you want to read in nature and in peace without technology

This. I have a kindle and I read on it sometimes, but I've just grown tired of screen. Screen at work, screen when watching movies, screen when browsing this shithole. I just want to read from a normal paper book when I can.

I buy two copies. One to set fire to, and the other because I like the book

What's the chance of being cought pirating books though? Do you use a vpn?

>> No.22006730

That entirely depends on your level of disposable income and if you have a good reason for rebuying the book.
For example if your copy is warn out or damaged then a nicer replacement for something you already have shown through wear that you frequently use would be a good value.
Another good reason would be because you would like to gift the inferior copy to someone who you think will enjoy or otherwise get use from the book.
A special copy that would be of enhanced sentimental value would also be understandable. Such as a hardback with the author's signature and a personalized note of a book you already have positive associations with due to the contents.
Or even a rare printing or specially bound book as a luxury object. Such as a hand bound version of your favorite book. The Craftsman's artistic addition being yet another pleasurable indulgence that increases the value beyond just utility of a plainly paper bound book. Presuming of course that you have the money to spare for such a ultimately frivolous luxury.

A ordinary mass-produced duplicate of a book you already possess in paperback form doesn't make sense if you aren't using it as a replacement though.

>commodity fetishism
Yeah... what's that, exactly? Is it a moral judgement on my consumer habits? A description of some psychic phenomenon akin to actual religious fetishism?
