Not really how it works. Traditional is not a binary in his mind. It’s like a spectrum. Various peoples at various times are more or less Traditional. I have no idea what he would’ve thought about the Taliban, probably something positive because he wrote strangely positive stuff about similar Muslim groups in China, India, and Afghani Taliban just seems like something he’s nerd out for. He didn’t care. His conception of whether or not a people was Traditional was basically whether it was governed by spiritual warriors. That they follow an unorthodox form of Islam is something he’d just dismiss as “exoteric”. That’s the get out of jail free card for Traditionalists.
