I don't know why you're so upset about this. Do you just feel intimidated by having to read a lot? Just start slow, a few short stories here and there on the weekends. That's what I did.

Just look at all the stupid analogies that have been made in this thread here (ex. detectives don’t commit homicide, therefore you don’t need to read to be a good writer). Yeah, it is. It's the difference between creating and consooming. Reading the greats can give you guidelines but mountains of absorbed text will not suddenly turn into talent. Style is personality. 6-year old Nael wrote a better poem (Tiger) than countless lit professors ever could. If you have something to express, the craft will come.
